Remember when everyone used to instantly dismiss the idea of working remotely?
Not only was it frowned upon to work from home rather than turn up at the office but the idea of communicating with clients via a video call instead of getting out on the road to see them face to face was, quite frankly, a nonstarter.
In-person meetings have always been part and parcel of the job. No matter your customer’s location, it was always seen as a sound investment to take a day out and get in a car – or hop on a plane – even if it were only to see them for half an hour.
It may not have been an efficient way of working but it was seen as essential to preserve important business relationships.
Then along came the COVID-19 pandemic – and everything suddenly changed.

There were those in the chemical industry who were a little doubtful of the technology, to say the least but now their eyes are starting to open and they’re seeing the huge opportunities ahead.

Any savvy businessman, if they take a step back and look objectively at the situation, will likely now admit that, in hindsight, it appears a little frivolous and inefficient to be racking up all those air miles when a simple Zoom call can be just as effective.
Times are changing and so are attitudes.
Nowadays, at the click of a button, we can communicate with colleagues and peers in an instant. Chemical products can be bought and sold online as easily as a DVD or some groceries. Stock levels can be managed, documentation downloaded, price history monitored, and deliveries tracked within seconds. And it can all be done at any time of the day or night, wherever you are, and whenever you need.
We don’t need to physically be together anymore to work effectively and efficiently. Technology empowers us to be better.
